The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) set the price for natural gas in March at BGN 87.58 per MWh, excluding access, transmission, excise, and VAT costs, the EWRC said here on Friday. This represents an increase of nearly 4% compared to the February price of BGN 84.34/MWh.

At this price, State-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz will provide natural gas to end suppliers and entities licensed to produce and transmit heating energy. The EWRC said that the decision was made after analyzing updated data submitted by Bulgargaz.

The price mix includes the entire volume of Azeri natural gas, delivered via the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector (IGB) under the long-term contract with Azerbaijan. The EWRC said these volumes cover 45.34% of energy consumption in March and play a key role in securing a favourable price for natural gas. Bulgargaz has signed two contracts for liquefied natural gas supplies with traders, following a tender that required a minimum delivery price and a proposed payment method. The March price mix also includes gas from the Chiren underground storage facility.

The secured volumes cover Bulgargaz’s commitments to end suppliers and heating companies for March, and volumes under bilateral contracts with industrial clients, the EWRC added.
