MP Bozhidar Bozhanov of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) said on Friday he will give up his immunity to face prosecution for malfeasance in office allegedly committed in his former capacity as electronic governance minister. Bozhanov said he will submit his immunity waiver on Tuesday and will cooperate with the authorities to uncover the truth. He added that he is not worried about the outcome of the future trial.

Earlier in the day, the Prosecution Service said on its website that acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov had asked the National Assembly to lift the immunity of Bozhanov and another CC-DB parliamentarian, Kiril Petkov. Bozhanov is suspected of trying, as electronic governance minister in 2021-2022, to secure gains for a consortium bidding for a BGN 18 million public procurement contract.

In a position statement released by Yes Bulgaria! (a member party of CC-DB), Bozhanov commented: "I read what they have written about the intended immunity waiver, and I can say it is nothing but fabricated nonsense. I believe in the Bulgarian courts, and I believe the truth will be established."

The statement further reads: "The case is finally coming out of the phase of media speculation. Remember that I have repeatedly called on the Prosecution to work quickly, but I have not been questioned to this day."
