Olympic shooting medalist Vesela Lecheva and Stefka Kostadinova, the world high jump champion and current head of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC), are vying to lead BOC for the next term in office. Lecheva's bid was announced by her press office on Friday.
The leader will be elected at a BOC general meeting in Sofia on March 19.
Lecheva is a two-times Olympic silver medalist and five-times world champion. She was nominated for the top BOC position by the Bulgarian Shooting Union. In the autumn of 2023, she was elected to the Corporate Communications Committee of the International Olympic Committee.
Kostadinova is running for re-election for a sixth term. She is an Olympic high jump champion from Atlanta in 1996 and seven-times world champion. She has headed BOC since November 11, 2005.
The deadline for nominations expired February 27.
