Head of State Rumen Radev discussed on Friday the opportunities for deepening the cooperation between Bulgaria and France in the nuclear energy sector with representatives of the French company Framatome, the President's press service said on Friday. The focus of the meeting, which took place at the presidential institution, was the supply of nuclear fuel to Bulgaria, the partnership to ensure nuclear safety and cybersecurity of nuclear reactors, the management of spent nuclear fuel and the opportunities to strengthen cooperation in the field of education.
French Ambassador to Bulgaria Joel Meyer also participated in the meeting.
President Radev underlined Bulgaria's aspiration to achieve sustainable solutions in the field of energy, which will guarantee its energy independence and security. The head of State identified energy diversification as a key priority for the country and highlighted the importance of nuclear energy in this regard. The recognition of nuclear energy as green energy is also of great importance for increasing energy stability in Europe, it was underlined during the meeting.
Radev also highlighted Bulgaria's 50 years of experience in the safe and successful operation of nuclear facilities, as well as the availability of the necessary training facilities and competent specialists through which Bulgaria plans to upgrade its nuclear capacity.
