In December 2024, the turnover in Bulgaria's retail trade, except motor vehicles and motorcycles at constant prices increased by 0.5% compared to November 2024 and 6.8% compared to December 2023, according to the calendar-adjusted data, the National Statistical Institute reported on Thursday.

November 2024 saw a 1.3% increase of turnovers from the previous month and 6.8% from November 2023.

Monthly Variations

In December 2024, a growth was reported in retail sales of non-food products (except motor fuels and lubricants) grew by 0.4% and by 0.2% in retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco. Retail sales of motor fuels and lubricants in specialized stores declined by 2.4%, compared to November 2024. Retail sales of non-food products (except motor fuels and lubricants) grew by 2.4%. Retail sale in non-specialized stores decreased by 0.7%.

In October 2024, the turnover increased in most major groups.

Annual Variations

In December 2024, compared to December 2023, the turnover in retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 11.6%, and the turnover in retail sales of non-food products (except fuel) grew by 9.4%. The turnover in retail sales of automotive fuels and lubricants in specialized stores declined by 10.7%. All subgroups in retail sales of non-food products (except fuel) registered a growth. Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet increased by a substantial 39.3%, and retail trade of various goods increased by 22.8%.

In November 2024, compared to November 2023, the turnover in retail sales of food, beverages and tobacco rose by 11%, and the turnover in retail sales of non-food products (except motor fuels and lubricants) increased by 9.1%. Retail sale of motor fuels and lubricants shrank by 7.9%.
