The one million flights served mark in Bulgarian airspace for 2024 was crossed in December, said the state-owned air traffic control company (BULATSA) on Thursday.
"Reaching the one-million-flights mark is a significant achievement for us and proof of the sustainable development of Bulgarian aviation", said BULATSA Director Georgi Peev, adding that this is a result of the "joint work of our specialists, investment in advanced technologies and excellent coordination with international aviation authorities and is another step forward in our efforts to provide safe, efficient and reliable services to all airlines and passengers".
In 2024 BULATSA successfully served a record number of flights in the Bulgarian airspace, ensuring the safety, efficiency and timeliness of air operations, the state-owned enterprise added, saying that it will continue to invest in the training of highly qualified specialists, introduction of new and modern technologies and optimization of processes in order to ensure even higher levels of service and safety of air traffic.
Nearly 5,000 flights were operated at Sofia Airport in November, according to the airport's data. Sofia Airport operated 4,993 flights to 81 destinations in 33 countries, served by 29 airlines in November. London topped the ranking for the most passengers carried, followed by Vienna. Istanbul is also among the preferred destinations, as are Frankfurt, and Rome.
