site.btaEnergy Ministry: US, UK Companies to Supply Bulgarian Market with LNG
Ten international companies have submitted binding bids within the tender announced by natural gas supplier Bulgargaz EAD for the supply of LNG to the Alexandroupolis terminal in Greece for the months of January and February 2025. The UK company BPGas Marketing Limited has been selected to supply LNG in January 2025 and Venture Global Commodities, one of the leading US LNG producers, has been selected to supply LNG in February 2025, the Energy Ministry reported here on Friday.
"As a shareholder in the Alexandroupolis terminal, our country has access to diversified LNG supplies from our partners in the United States and Europe. The interest expressed and the selection of two of the largest international companies prove the significant interest in the gas market in our country and in the region," the caretaker Energy Minister said on the occasion of the conclusion of the tender.
This is the final stage of the tender procedure that Bulgargaz EAD announced at the end of August 2024 for the supply of a total of 5 cargoes (5 000 000 MWh) of LNG within its reserved capacity at the Alexandroupolis terminal. The first tender was for the supply of natural gas in October, the second tender was for the months of November and December, and the third tender was for supplies in January and February 2025.
The successful completion of all three tenders guarantees secure and affordable natural gas supplies for Bulgarian domestic and industrial consumers for the current autumn-winter season, the announcement said.
