Opening a photographic exhibition celebrating the holiday of Bulgaria’s Land Forces, November 19, Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov said, "The military traditions of the Land Forces are linked to the glorious victories of the Bulgarian Army in all the wars that our country has fought for liberation, national unification and the defence of freedom and territorial integrity of the country. In order to have peace today, we need to have modern and prepared Land Forces."
"The Army deserves the respect of our society, and this exhibition is a good tool to showcase the tireless work and efforts put in by all ranks in the Army on defending this country and ensuring its peaceful development. They are always there when needed - in fires, floods, disasters - showing the human face of the Bulgarian soldier, for which I offer my great gratitude," said Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov.
Commander of the Land Forces Major General Deyan Deshkov unveiled the exhibition, which launches the events marking the upcoming holiday and which will be presented throughout the country.
The exhibition includes images of servicemen and civilian employees of the military formations, showing the preparation and conduct of exercises, drills and activities to help the population. Minister Zapryanov and Major General Deshkov stressed the exceptional role of the Armed Forces in coping with the consequences of natural disasters this year, focusing on firefighting throughout the country. More than 2,600 members of the Land Forces have been involved for weeks in the fight to contain fires during the summer months.
