site.btaBulgaria's Cinema Revenues Near BGN 59 Mln in 2024, Viewership Remains below Pre-Pandemic Levels

Cinemas across Bulgaria generated BGN 58,870,933 in ticket sales in 2024, according to the latest summary of the film distribution market. This represents an increase of over BGN 5.5 million compared to 2023.

In 2024, a total of 4,646,539 people went to the pictures, up from 4,464,478 in 2023. Despite this growth, attendance remains below pre-COVID-19 levels, with 5,016,079 viewers recorded in 2019. The highest number of cinema-goers was recorded in 2016 and 2017, when over 5.5 million people visited cinemas.

Last year, Bulgarian films performed as expected, with attendance nearly tripling compared to 2023. Screenings attracted 1,147,676 viewers in 2024, up from 410,785 the previous year. Ticket revenues from Bulgarian films also saw a threefold increase, totalling BGN 14,339,667 in 2024, compared to BGN 4,337,252 in 2023.
