Cabinet Approves Report on State of Defence, Armed Forces in 2024

The Council of Ministers approved the Report on the State of Defence and the Armed Forces in 2024. The report was developed in accordance with the Defence and Armed Forces Act.

The document presents to the National Assembly and the public an assessment of the state of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and the results achieved in the defence sector during the year. On the basis of the conclusions drawn, the report also outlines the main areas of work in 2025 and in the medium term in which the Defence Ministry will focus its efforts to conduct an effective defence policy.

In 2024, continuity was ensured in the objectives and priorities of the defence policy and the country's contribution within the framework of NATO collective defence and the EU Common Security and Defence Policy. The implementation of the Programme for the Development of the Defence Capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria until 2032, of the Development Plan for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria until 2026 and of the National Plan for Increasing Defence Expenditure to 2% of GDP by 2024 continued.

The efforts were focused on: improving the performance of the Armed Forces' missions and tasks; accelerating the development and sustainment of the required defence capabilities and filling the gaps; rearmament and modernisation; filling vacant posts, manning and training the voluntary reserve; implementing NATO's Capability Objectives; capability building and active strategic communications with the public.

The report will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.
