President Rumen Radev will host a traditional iftar dinner in Sofia to mark the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, the President's press secretariat announced on Saturday. Vice President Iliana Iotova will also attend the event.
Invited guests include representatives of the Muslim community, other traditional religious communities in Bulgaria, members of the diplomatic corps, intellectuals, cultural figures, educators, and scholars.
The President’s hosting of the iftar dinner reflects Bulgaria’s respect for the religious practices and cultural traditions of its Muslim citizens, the administration said.
During the 2024 iftar dinner, Radev highlighted that in these challenging times for humanity, the event is an opportunity to make a collective appeal for peace, empathy, and solidarity with those suffering in regions affected by ongoing violent conflicts. He underscored the need to support innocent women and children who continue to lose their lives, stressing that respect for human life must remain paramount.
Radev further emphasised the collective responsibility to educate younger generations in a spirit of mutual understanding, tolerance, respect, and kindness.
Bulgaria provides an example of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, standing in contrast to global conflicts driven by religious differences, said Chief Mufti Mustafa Hadzhi.
