Dzhevdet Chakarov, Chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), MRF Deputy Chairman Valentin Tonchev and National Assembly Deputy Chairman Hayri Sadakov have met with Patriarch Daniil, the MRF press office said on Thursday. In a spirit of mutual respect and understanding, the conversation focused on the importance of faith in society, its role as the foundation of moral values, and the need of peaceful coexistence among different religious communities in Bulgaria.

The sides emphasized the role of religion as a bridge between people, regardless of their ethnic and religious affiliation. Bulgaria is an example of harmonious co-existence between Christians and Muslims. Dialogue between religious communities is key to maintaining stability and social unity, the MRF said.

Dzhevdet Chakarov said: "Politics and religion are essentially different, but they have the mission of serving people. Where there is faith, there is hope. And where there is hope, there is a future. It is our duty to preserve the spiritual and moral foundations of society and to work for peace, tolerance, and understanding."

Patriarch Daniel said: "The Bulgarian Orthodox Church has instilled in our people the Christian virtues, above all love of God and love for one's neighbor, which are the foundation of lasting and stable relationships among people in society."

Teaching religion as a subject in school was discussed as one of the tools to combat addiction among young people. 

The meeting with Patriarch Daniil took place on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims. The MRF remains firmly convinced that dialogue between religions, respect for traditions, and shared values are the key to a peaceful and prosperous society, the party said.
