Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev took part via videoconference in a meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council organized by the Finnish chairmanship on Monday to mark the third anniversary of the Ukraine war.

In his statement, Minister Georgiev condemned Russia's flagrant violation of the UN Charter and OSCE principles and commitments, the ongoing attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, as well as Russia's systematic violations of international humanitarian law. Minister Georgiev reaffirmed Bulgaria's comprehensive support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and stressed the need for joint efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in accordance with the legitimate interests of the Ukrainian side.

Georgiev expressed particular concern about Russia's aggressive behaviour in the Black Sea, which poses a serious threat to security in the region and restricts freedom of navigation affecting negatively global food and commodity supply chains. Minister Georgiev stressed the importance of OSCE support to Ukraine, which represents a commitment to European security and the international legal order.

The meeting was attended by a large number of EU and NATO Member States' Foreign Ministers, as well as Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The messages delivered reaffirmed once again the broad support for Ukraine and its right to self-defence, independence and sovereignty, the statement said.
