At its regular meeting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers adopted the Annual Activity Report of the EU  Affairs Council for 2024, the Government information service reported. The report contains information on the decisions taken by the Council in the implementation of the obligations assigned to it by the 2007 Council of Ministers to ensure Bulgaria’s full participation in the EU decision-making process, as well as in terms of monitoring the implementation of the commitments arising from the country’s EU membership.

Over the past year, the Council adopted a total of 539 decisions. The reporting year coincided with the holding of the European Parliament elections in June 2024, which predetermined the high intensity of negotiations between the EU institutions in the first half of 2024, with the aim of achieving maximum progress on legislative proposals related to the Union’s set priorities and objectives. The report also contains information on 2024 activities to monitor the implementation of the obligations arising from the membership of the Republic of Bulgaria in the EU and the monitoring carried out within the framework of the Council.

The Council of Ministers also approved a 2025 Action Plan, prepared based on the proposals of the Council working groups. It also includes measures not implemented on time from the 2024 Plan with an implementation deadline of January 31, 2025.

The draft 2025 Action Plan includes 203 measures related to the preparation of regulatory acts implementing the requirements of EU directives with a transposition deadline of 2025 and by the end of April 2026, as well as directives and framework decisions whose transposition deadline has expired but have not yet been implemented. The project also includes 43 measures related to commitments undertaken within the framework of 45 infringement procedures.
