In a statement sent to the media, the parliamentary group of Democracy, Rights, and Freedoms (DRF) expressed its strong disagreement with the appointment of former Deputy Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova as Director of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA). According to DRF, the decision was not discussed within the framework of the Joint Governance Council (JGC).

The council consists of representatives of the parliamentary groups of the ruling majority - GERB-UDF, BSP – United Left coalition, There Is Such a People, and DRF. DRF is the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) faction whose members remained loyal to MRF founder and former honorary chair Ahmed Dogan when the party split into two in 2024, with the other faction being Delyan Peevski’s MRF – New Beginning.

"We consider this approach unacceptable, as it was made without transparency and consultations with the stakeholders within JGC. Even more concerning is the fact that the aim is to turn PFIA into yet another repressive structure in the hands of Delyan Peevski through his operative, Ms. Lyudmila Petkova. The mission is obvious—using the institution as a bludgeon to exert pressure on those deemed inconvenient!", DRF’s statement reads.

The movement calls on Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova to immediately withdraw Petkova’s appointment to restore the principles of transparency and consultations within the ruling majority. "We remind that, according to the Agreement on the Parliamentary Majority for Implementing the Governance Programme, decisions are made by consensus. In the absence of consensus, the matter may be postponed for further discussion or a compromise proposal may be drafted. […] We insist on strict adherence to these principles, which ensure the stability and effectiveness of governance," DRF added.
