The conditions for hiking in the mountains are favourable, the Mountain Rescue Service (MRS) of the Bulgarian Red Cross told BTA on Saturday.

In the mountains, snowfall is continuing, with a new snow cover of about 5-10 cm. Temperatures range from -5°C to -2°C. The weather is cloudy with moderate wind in the higher altitudes.

No incidents have been reported in the past 24 hours, according to MRS.

Snowfall will primarily affect the Balkan Mountains and the massifs in Western Bulgaria, while in the Rhodopes, precipitation will be a mix of rain and snow.

The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said that moderate to strong westerly wind is expected. Highs: 2°C at 1,200 metres, 0°C at 2,000 metres.
