site.btaInterior Minister Ilkov: 385 Cases of Phishing and Fake News Reviewed by DGCOC Over One Year

The Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime (DGCOC) handled 385 cases of phishing and fake news over the past year, caretaker Minister of the Interior Atanas Ilkov said Friday during Question Time in response to a question from Vazrazhdane MP Georgi Ivanov.

Each report was reviewed and forwarded to the prosecution service, Ilkov added.

During the session, Kalin Stoyanov, former caretaker Minister of the Interior in Dimitar Glavchev's first caretaker cabinet in 2024, and now an MP from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF)-New Beginning, also addressed the matter. He clarified that the minister of the interior does not determine where specific reports are directed.

“Each report is reviewed,” Stoyanov said, adding that the final decision is made by the prosecution service after the Ministry of the Interior submits all relevant data.
