Addressing his colleagues at the start of Wednesday’s government meeting, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said that the euro area is on Bulgaria’s doorstep. “In a few days we have to meet the fourth criterion for the euro area - price stability,” he added.
Glavchev focused on three main areas in the work done by the caretaker government, one of which is the upcoming eurozone membership.
He highlighted the holding of fair and transparent elections and praised the work of the caretaker ministers of e-government Valentin Mundrov, of interior Atanas Ilkov and of innovation and growth Rosen Karadimov, as well as of all ministers involved in the conduct of the elections.
The caretaker Prime Minister also talked about Bulgaria’s full membership in Schengen, achieved with the efforts of many governments, experts and diplomats. “There was a lot of intensive communication in the last days before Bulgaria's full Schengen accession,” Glavchev said, adding that he personally spoke with Austria's Chancellor, with the Danish Prime Minister and Greece's Prime Minister to ensure the best border protection.
“These efforts will continue so that we can have a stable protection of the EU's external borders,” Glavchev said.
