A yellow code for heavy snowfall and rain has been issued for 22 regions across the country for December 21, the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) said. Snow is expected in the regions of Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Dobrich, Lovech, Kyustendil, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Razgrad, Ruse, Silistra, Sliven, Smolyan, Sofia city, Sofia Region, Targovishte, Shumen. Rain and snow are forecast for the regions of Plovdiv, Sliven, Stara Zagora, while rain is expected in Kardzhali, Haskovo and Yambol regions.

Rain overnight is forecast in western and central Bulgaria, snow in the mountains and high fields, where a snow cover will form.

On Saturday precipitation will cover the whole country. During the day, rain will change to snow in the Western Rhodopes, the Fore-Balkan and the Ludogorie region. Significant precipitation is expected in the southeastern half of the country. Windy with highs of 2C to 7C, around 2C in Sofia.

Moderate to strong northerly winds will bring in blizzards in the passes.
