site.btaCocaine, Methamphetamine Worth BGN 1.5 Mln Found in Car at Kapitan Andreevo Border Checkpoint

Nearly 6 kg of cocaine and over 18 kg of methamphetamine with a total value of BGN 1,491,240 were found by inspectors of the Customs Agency and police officers of the Interior Ministry's Haskovo Police Department during an inspection of a car leaving Bulgaria.

A car with Bulgarian registration arrived at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on December 11. The driver and his companion, Bulgarian citizens, were traveling from Bulgaria to Turkiye. They declared to the customs officers that they were not carrying goods subject to export bans and restrictions. Using the "risk analysis" method, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Department selected the vehicle for a thorough customs inspection and discovered five packages containing cocaine. Its total gross weight was 5.830 kg, valued at BGN 1,049,400.

A large quantity of methamphetamine pink tablets with a total gross weight of 18.410 kg, worth BGN 441,840, was also found.

Pre-trial proceedings were initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District prosecution office. At the latter's request, the local court took pre-trial detention measures against the two Bulgarian citizens.
