Ahmed Dogan, the Honorary Chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) and top-of-the-list candidate of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms in Razgrad and Kardzhali, came out to a protest on Saturday against the detention of MP Dzheyan Ibryamov, who was arrested in Sofia for vote-buying.
The protest was held in front of the National Assembly building, after which the march went to the nearby Palace of Justice, where the request of the prosecution for a pre-trial detention order on MP Ibryamov is being heard.
"I came especially to support this strong woman and her husband, Dzheyhan Ibryamov," Ahmed Dogan told the gathering. Birshen Ibryamova, who is the wife of the detained MP, announced Thursday that she was going on a hunger strike until her husband was released.
"The State and all control bodies are against us, so we will do everything we can to reach this normality we have always wanted," Dogan said.
Protesters chanted "No turning back", "We are not afraid" and "MRF". The crowd released white doves before leaving for the courthouse.
