site.btaBulgarian Red Cross to Distribute Food Aid to Vulnerable People in Every Region
The Bulgarian Red Cross (BRC) has begun distributing individual food packages to citizens in need in various regions across the country, including Varna, Sliven and Veliko Tarnovo, said the regional BRC organizations on Tuesday.
BRC Sliven will distribute food to nearly 15,000 in Sliven region. The list of people who are in need of support has been provided to the BRC by the Social Assistance Agency. The list includes over 8,000 people in need in Sliven Municipality, over 3,000 people in Kotel Municipality, and more than 1,500 people each in Nova Zagora Municipality and Tvarditsa Municipality.
The BRC in Varna also began the distribution of 253 tonnes of different food products to 17,000 vulnerable residents in the region on Tuesday, while BRC Veliko Tarnovo began the distribution of food products to 2,000 people in Svishtov Municipality on Monday, the municipal press center said.
One-member and two-member families will each receive one package weighing over 10 kg of 15 different types of food products, including flour, rice, spaghetti, lutenitsa, oil and sugar. Families of three and larger will receive two food packages with a total weight of over 38 kg.
Over 618,000 people are expected to receive aid in 2024. The detailed schedule for the distribution of the food packages is published on the websites of the BRC, and is also available in the regional offices of the BRC. The distribution will be carried out by employees and volunteers of the BRC in 306 temporary points throughout the country and will continue until June 7, 2024.
The distribution of food to vulnerable citizens is carried out in implementation of the Food and Basic Material Support Programme, co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).
