According to the latest scientific data, there are 26 invasive species in the Black Sea. Nine of them are crustaceans and the rest are zoobenthos.

Flexopecten glaber is a Mediterranean species that colonised the Black Sea some 5,000 to 7,000 years ago. The species used to be rare in Bulgarian Black Sea waters during the first half of the previous century, and the available historical data suggest its probable extinction since the 1960s.
