1849: Hungarian emigrees staying in Vidin stage Bulgaria's first European theatrical performance.
1912: Bulgaria's Raina Kassabova becomes first woman ever to perform wartime air mission, overflying Adrianople (Edirne) to drop leaflets during First Balkan War (1912-1913).
1912: Turkey offers truce to Bulgaria and its allies in First Balkan War.
1944: Union of Scientific Workers in Bulgaria established in Sofia (since 1990: Union of Scientists in Bulgaria).
1960: Diplomatic relations with Cyprus established at embassy level.
1971: Higher Teacher Training Institute opens in Shumen (Northeastern Bulgaria) as stand-alone higher education establishment (since 1995: Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen).
2002: Bulgaria completes destruction of its SS-23, Scud and FROG missile systems.
2011: Rosen Plevneliev is elected President of Bulgaria, with Margarita Popova as Vice President, in second round of voting at presidential elections.
