Parliament on Wednesday ratified an agreement between the Bulgarian government and the University Agency of Francophonie for Central and Eastern Europe with regards to the headquarters of the Agency’s Bulgarian Office. The agreement was signed on 10 December 2024.
Bulgaria has been a full member of the International Organization of la Francophonie since 1993, and the University Agency of Francophonie develops Francophone cooperation in the field of higher education and research, bringing together more than 1,000 universities from over 100 countries. To date, 11 Bulgarian universities and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are members of the University Agency of Francophonie, and more than 800 students study annually in 12 Francophone university programmes.
In 2013, the Agency’s Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe of the University Agency of Francophonie moved from Bucharest to Sofia for a period of ten years.
The bill to ratify the agreement in effect renews the previous agreement for a new ten-year term.
