The Council of Ministers has adopted the National Programme for Primary Prevention of Cancers Caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), 2025-2030. This ensures that vaccination can be provided to different population groups to prevent cervical and other cancers caused by HPV.

Along with this, the activities that have so far been implemented within the scope of three consecutive programme periods of the National Programme for Primary Prevention of Cervical Cancer are continued, taking into account the need for their expansion, in line with the European Programme for Immunisation 2030 and the national health priorities set out in the National Plan for Combating Cancer in Bulgaria, 2027 and the National Health Strategy 2030.

The strategic objective of the programme is to reduce the incidence and mortality of cancers caused by HPV, which will be achieved by increasing the number of people vaccinated against HPV in the target groups: girls aged 10-14 years, boys aged 10-13/14 and girls and women aged 15-21, with a phased increase from 27,557 vaccinated persons in the target groups in 2025 to 174,932 persons in the target groups in 2030.

National information campaigns on the benefits of HPV vaccination are planned.
