The Sofia Municipal Council (SOC) Thursday elected five deputy chairs of the Council, as well as members of the standing committees.

The elected deputy chairpersons of the SOC are: Boyko Dimitrov from Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (Save Sofia), Georgi Georgiev from GERB-UDF, Diana Tonova from BSP for Bulgaria, Vili Lilkov from Blue Sofia, and Sevdelina Petrova from Vazrazhdane.

On February 16, Regional Governor of Sofia Vyara Todeva reversed the elections made at the extraordinary meeting of SOC on February 8 because the committee chairs had not been convoked according to the rules.

The composition of the standing committees is the same as the one approved at the meeting of the SOC on February 8, with the only difference being that the municipal councillor from CC-DB (Save Sofia) Bonka Vasileva withdrew as committee chairperson on corruption, and her place was taken by the municipal councillor from GERB Anton Hekimyan.

Out of a total of 14 committees in the SOC, GERB-UDF chairs five, BSP for Bulgaria four, CC-DB (Save Sofia) two, There Is Such a People one, and two committees are chaired by two independent municipal councillors.

Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev said that it is not normal for the biggest political force in the Municipal Council, which has 23 members, to chair two commissions with no particular relation to the major problems of the capital. He noted that he had hoped to see a distribution of the chairmanships which had more political logic.
