Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Ivanov has ordered dangerous road sections across Bulgaria to be checked for landslides and other geodynamic processes, his Ministry said in a press release Saturday. The goal is to undertake the necessary preventive actions in light of the expected  heavy rainfall and the need to increase road safety.

The news comes after protests over road safety issues following yet another fatal traffic accident that took the life of a 12-year-old girl in Pleven Region. On April 3, the Regional Development and Public Works Minister asked the Road Infrastructure Agency to conduct a check and suspended the entire leadership of the Pleven Regional Road Administration for the duration of the check.

The check will provide information on the actions needed in the road sections with high frequency of traffic accidents across the country, Saturday's press release specifies. The possible solutions include: road repairs, renewal of the road markings, and placement of road signs and shoulders.

Also on Saturday, Interior Minister Daniel Mitov ordered a comprehensive inspection of the condition of dangerous sections of the road network throughout Bulgaria.
