Banks' Profit as at End of April Stands at 439 Million Leva

Sofia, June 1 (BTA) - As at the end of April the profit in the banking system amounted to 439 million leva, or 65 million leva more than the like figuer for 2015, the National Bank of Bulgaria (BNB, the central bank) reported. The liquidity ratio remained high at 36.57 per cent.

The accumulated impairment on loans and receivables was 219 million leva, against 244 million leva in January-April 2015.

The loan portfolio of the banking system (excluding lending to central banks and lending institutions) increased by 0.3 per cent to 144 million leva. Lending to non-financial corporations and households too increased by 0.3 per cent. Lending in the sectors state governance and other financial institutions decreased by 0.6 per cent and 0.8 per cent, respectively.

The total amount of deposits in the banking system increased by 0.4 per cent to 73.9 billion leva as at the end of April. Funds from households increased by 0.4 per cent, or 387 million leva, compared to March. Deposits from non-financial institutions grew by 0.5 per cent, and deposits from other financial institutions, by 1.7 per cent.

In late April the banking system's balance sheet capital was 11.7 billion leva, having increased by 0.9 per cent from March driven by growing profits.
