Prime Minister Borissov Discusses Migration Crisis, Border Security with Hungarian, Serbian Counterparts Orban and Vucic

Sofia, September 13 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov conferred on Tuesday evening with his visiting Hungarian and Serbian counterparts, Viktor Orban and Aleksandar Vucic, Cabinet's press service reported.

The three government leaders believe that the migration crisis is not a problem just for the European Union and its Member States, although it is felt the most in Europe, and that Brussels can not make the universal decision. Brussels, however, can help the countries in Europe converge their positions and consolidate their efforts for finding a way out that meets Europeans' expectations.

Orban and Vucic are paying a visit to Bulgaria in order to exchange views before the Bratislava summit, during which EU state and government leaders will discuss the migration crisis and finding ways out of it. The Hungarian Prime Minister will personally become acquainted with the security measures along Bulgaria's land and maritime borders, which happen to be EU external borders as well.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister noted that a common and sustainable solution to the problem can not be found without the joint efforts of all EU Member States. He stressed the need for the EU to act as one and called for seeking a common European solution for dealing with the migrant flow. Borissov said that Bulgaria will accept support for border protection, but also emphasized the EU-Turkey agreement's role for limiting the flow of migrants towards Europe.

Borissov introduced his counterparts to the actions taken by Bulgaria for guaranteeing the security and peace along the borders. "Bulgaria bears a huge responsibility being an EU external border with Turkey. We are facing a historical challenge for Europe's security and must seek a single position for a new migration policy with a long-term perspective, as well as adequate measures for our own defence. We are building fences in order to even stand a chance to protect the European border for which we are responsible," the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.

Borissov also noted the good results from the bilateral cooperation for stopping illegal migrants. He gave as an example the active relations between the Bulgarian and Turkish authorities for limiting the migration pressure on Bulgaria, as well as the mutual assistance and joint actions which the Bulgarian authorities are taking with their colleagues from Serbia, Macedonia and Greece.
