MEP Warns of Migrants Turning Towards Black Sea

Varna, on the Black Sea, September 18 (BTA) - Angel Dzhambazki MEP warned on Sunday that part of the migrant flow may change direction and turn towards the Black Sea. Dzhambazki said that criminals trafficking in persons are testing new routes to choose the most appropriate ones and are watching the reaction of the border authorities.

That is why Bulgaria should ask NATO for support against illegal human trafficking, he said. "The border services and the Navy ought to begin planning such a joint operation against illegal trafficking," he said.

The members of the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization in the Bulgarian National Assembly are planning to raise a series of queries with the government about the protection of the land borders, Dzhambazki announced.

He reasoned that now that the European Commission has provided 108 million euro in emergency funding for Bulgaria's border security, it is important to make sure that the money really reaches the border security officers, rather than being used to renovate offices in Sofia. As a European parliamentarian, he vowed to urge Brussels to exercise such control, too.
