National Sports Academy (NSA) Rector Prof. Nikolay Izov and National Centre for Polar Studies Director Prof. Hristo Pimpirev signed a framework contract for joint activity between the institutions they represent, reported the NSA website.

The document practically formalizes the long-standing successful partnership between the NSA and the Bulgarian scientific research base in Antarctica, in which many NSA professors have participated, including Assoc. Prof.  Alexander Shopov, Doychin Boyanov, and others.

As a sign of appreciation for the fruitful joint work in the study of Antarctica, and as a wish for future success, Pimpirev presented Izov with an Honourary Badge of the Bulgarian Antarctic Base.

Experts from the NSA Centre for Scientific and Applied Activities in Sports will conduct specific scientific research with the participants in the upcoming Antarctic expedition, said Prof. Albena Alexandrova, head of the centre. Prof. Pimpirev said that the main task of the expedition is the construction of a scientific laboratory on the territory of the Bulgarian base in Antarctica. Dragomir Mateev, Deputy Director of the National Centre for Polar Studies, who also took part in the meeting, is part of the joint activities team.

During his visit, Prof. Hristo Pimpirev was once again visited the Educational and Olympic Centre, where among the exhibits one can see a jacket from his personal equipment from the first Bulgarian Antarctic expedition, carried out in 1987.
