The Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism presented Bulgaria as a destination for year-round health tourism and opportunities for preventive care in Munich, the Union said in a press release on Wednesday. The targeted information event was organized on the initiative of the Bulgarian Consul General in Munich, Stefan Yonkov, and was held with the support and cooperation of the Bulgarian Ministry of Tourism.

Among the guests from Germany were representatives of health insurance companies, pension companies, sports clubs, branch organizations from Bavaria, and the media. Also among the guests was the President of the Bavarian Spa Association, with whom future joint projects in the field of balneology were discussed.

The German market is of strategic importance for Bulgarian health tourism, given that more than 20 million German citizens benefit annually from outpatient preventive care options financed by their health insurance, both at home and abroad. The fact that in 2019 the German Association of Health Insurance Companies included Bulgaria in the list of countries where preventive care and rehabilitation costs are recognised and reimbursed, is a clear indicator of the high quality of the healthcare services offered in Bulgaria, the press release reads.

This event is the second of its kind for the year, after the successful presentation of Bulgaria as a destination for affordable luxury in spa tourism during the largest international tourism exhibition ITB Berlin on March 4.
