The National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria (NAMRB) has a positive assessment of the macro-framework of the 2025 Budget Bill concerning municipalities, said in a BTA interview NAMRB Executive Director Silvia Georgieva.
The increase in funds for municipalities at the macro level is 13% compared to 2024. Georgieva noted that the figures set out in the bill are the result of long and prolonged negotiations with a total of three cabinets since the beginning of last year.
The investment programme for municipal projects continues, with over 3,000 projects included in the future budget. "The published draft budget provides that we will have about BGN 1.15 billion for payments this year, we have proposed that the amount be increased to BGN 1.80 billion and we expect to see whether this proposal will be taken into account," Georgieva said.
Municipalities hope to receive more funds than those currently planned for municipal healthcare, as there is a serious problem with attracting and retaining staff.
