Hungary is one of Bulgaria's key partners in trade and investment, with bilateral trade amounting to EUR 2.3 billion in 2023 and reaching some EUR 1.2 billion in the first half of 2024, Bulgarian caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Petko Nikolov said, addressing the opening ceremony of a Bulgarian-Hungarian Business Forum, which is taking place in Budapest on Friday. The event was organized by the Commercial and Economic Section of the Bulgarian Embassy in Budapest, the Economy Ministry said in a press release.
Nikolov added that Hungary's total investments in Bulgaria amount to some EUR 2.4 billion, according to Bulgarian National Bank preliminary data.
In his words, it is important for Bulgaria to continue working on attracting Hungarian investors, but at the same time to give Bulgarian companies the opportunity to be present on the Hungarian market.
"Bulgaria offers a stable investment environment and a number of advantages such as competitive tax conditions, strategic location, as well as a growing network of industrial zones," Nikolov said.
He welcomed the fact that a number of Hungarian business representatives are attending the forum.
The Bulgarian-Hungarian Business Forum was unveiled by Nevena Stoyanova, Head of Commercial and Economic Section of the Bulgarian Embassy in Budapest.
