Caretaker Deputy Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva, who inaugurated a scientific symposium entitled Air, Sea and Climate: Health Strategies here on Sunday, said that Bulgaria has a successful path towards health tourism by developing climatotherapy.

Health tourism is one of the priorities set out in the National Strategy for the Development of Sustainable Tourism in Bulgaria, a strategy that is valid and extends over a time horizon until 2030, Georgieva said. She added that the share of health tourism has been increasing and now accounts for approximately 16% of the National Tourism Product.

Current data from the first six months of 2024 show that nearly 716,000 tourist registrations have been made in municipalities in the country that offer spa tourism. According to a nationally representative survey carried out over two years, nearly 2,000,000 adult Bulgarians practiced various forms of health tourism, which shows the exceptional potential of this type of tourism.
