United Bulgarian Bank (UBB) won the title of Bank of the Year for 2023 at the 32nd Bank of the Year Awards held here on Thursday evening.

The award was presented by the President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, who listed some of the challenges faced by the banking system in recent years, such as the COVID crisis, the war in Ukraine, cyber and hybrid attacks, high inflation, climate change and the increasingly strict regulations imposed on the banking system by the Bulgarian National Bank [BNB]. Radev addressed the attending financial institutions representatives, saying: "This strict regulation is also the reason for your stability."

The event was also attended by the BNB Deputy Governor Petar Chobanov and the caretaker Minister of Innovation and Growth Rosen Karadimov.

Other banks recognized at the ceremony were First Investment Bank, UniCredit Bulbank, Investbank, TBI Bank, ING Bank and Postbank.

The Bank of the Year Awards were established and presented for the first time in 1992. Their goal is to be the platform that expresses the public's and businesses' assessment of the work and development of the Bulgarian banks and banking system.
