site.btaBulgaria's Gross External Debt in April Down by Nearly EUR 900 Mln, Year on Year
Bulgaria's gross external debt1 amounted to EUR 43,140.4 million (42.6% of projected GDP) at end-April 2024, decreasing by EUR 891.6 million (2%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 44,032 million, 46.9% of GDP), the Bulgarian National Bank reported on Friday.
Short-term liabilities equalled EUR 7,283 million (16.9% of the total gross debt, 7.2% of GDP), dropping by EUR 441 million (5.7%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 7,723.9 million, 17.5% of the total debt, 8.2% of GDP).
Long-term liabilities totalled EUR 35,857.5 million (83.1% of the total gross debt, 35.4% of GDP) at end-April 2024, down by EUR 450.6 million (1.2%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 36,308.1 million, 82.5% of the total debt, 38.6% of GDP).
The gross external debt of general government totalled EUR 10,430.4 million (10.3% of GDP) at end-April 2024, growing by EUR 875.5 million (9.2%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 9,555 million, 10.2% of GDP).
The external liabilities of the central bank stood at EUR 1,987.8 million (2% of GDP), decreasing by EUR 1.7 million (0.1%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 1,989.5 million, 2.1% of GDP).
The external liabilities of other monetary financial institutions (banks and money market funds) totalled EUR 6,113 million (6% of GDP), dropping by EUR 351.6 million (5.4%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 6,464.6 million, 6.9% of GDP).
Other sectors' external debt5 equalled EUR 11,863.4 million (11.7% of GDP), growing by EUR 8.7 million (0.1%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 11,854.7 million, 12.6% of GDP).
The stock of intercompany lending5 amounted to EUR 12,745.8 million (12.6% of GDP) at end-April 2024, decreasing by EUR 1,422.3 million (10%) from end-April 2023 (EUR 14,168.1 million, 15.1% of GDP). It held the largest share in external debt, 29.5% at end-April 2024, compared with 32.2% in end-April 2023, the central bank reported.
