Parliament Wednesday adopted on first reading amendments to the Energy Act to introduce a 12-hour maximum shift length for workers in hydropower plants and pumped storage power plants.

The Energy Committee said the proposed amendments concern the shifts of the operational staff on duty in underground hydropower plants and pumped storage plants. It is proposed that they work in shifts of a maximum length of 12 hours, which would ensure an option for two-shift work. Twelve-hour shifts would also ensure a better and more professional response to a possible incident.
