An exhibition dubbed The Colours of the Universe opened at the Planetarium in Smolyan on Saturday. The display features original photographs of space objects by Mihail Mamchurov, a computer programmer in the Black Sea city of Varna who is also an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer, said the Planetarium Director, Tsvetelina Gencheva.
Twenty-two photos of various space objects are on display in the lobby of the Planetarium. Gencheva said: "When I heard about the photographer and saw his works, I decided that we should organize such an exhibition, because all astronomical objects – planets, moons, comets, nebulae, galaxies – captured by Mihail's lens are very beautiful. And the Planetarium is the right place to show them."
Each image is accompanied by a note describing the object, its location in space, the distance from Earth, the number of observation hours and the number of shots used for the image, with a QR code taking the viewer to Mihail's website.
The idea is to make it a permanent exposition which can be enlarged with more photos.
