The government should come up with a plan to support industries affected by high electricity prices, Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) - New Beginning Floor Leader Delyan Peevski called for, quoted in a press release of the political formation.

The shutdown of the largest foundry for ferrous metals due to expensive electricity and the loss of the jobs of 540 people from the Stara Zagora region and their families is very worrying and dangerous news, the position of the MRF - New Beginning reads.

Peevski points out that allowing the unjustified increase in electricity prices will have a detrimental effect on people and businesses. That is why the parliamentary group has proposed a moratorium on the price increase, but the decision has also become a hostage of those who want to negotiate power, unprincipled and unconcerned with the people's agenda, Peevski notes.

In his words, at a meeting with employers' organizations, the MRF - New Beginning committed itself to adopting a mechanism for compensation for businesses because of the expensive electricity and gas, which not only increase the cost of production, but repel investors and entrepreneurs, thus leaving thousands of employees in these sectors on the street, without income and the ability to support their families.

Peevski indicates that the government, whether it is caretaker or regular, needs to have a concrete plan to support industries in difficulty because of high energy prices. In his words, manufacturing companies should not be made to go bankrupt and not a single person should be in danger of being unemployed because businesses are not receiving the necessary support and conditions from the state.

On Thursday, a working meeting was held of the MRF-New Beginning parliamentary group with employers represented by the Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA). The meeting focused on problems in the energy sector and their impact on businesses.
