Polling stations in Croatia have opened for the second round of the presidential elections in this country. The stations opened at 7 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Eastern European Time) and will close at 7 p.m.
Nearly 3.8 million Croatian citizens have the opportunity to vote in over 6,700 polling stations across Croatia, as well as in polling stations in 38 other countries around the world.
Croatians are choosing between the incumbent president, Zoran Milanovic, supported by the largest opposition party, the Social Democratic Party of Croatia, and the candidate of the ruling centre-right Croatian Democratic Union, Dragan Primorac.
It is expected that the State Election Commission will start publishing the first unofficial results at 7:30 p.m. local time – half an hour after the end of the election day.
Milanovic was close to securing a second term already in the first round, receiving 49.9 percent of the votes. The second-place finisher, Primorac, received 19.35 percent in the first round.
