site.btaThird Group of 33rd Bulgarian Antarctic Expedition Leaves for Livingston Island
The third group of Bulgaria's 33rd National Antarctic Expedition departed on January 11 from Sofia Airport for Rome en route to Rio Gallegos, Punta Arenas, King George Island and Livingston Island.
The third group consists of photographer and field assistant Aleksandar Valchev, engineer Assoc. Prof. Boris Tsankov, expedition medic Sevda Mihaylova, and BTA correspondent Milena Ostrovska. Daniela Pascal, a geologist from Romania, will join the group in Rome, and Bulgarian journalists Maria Cherneva and Anna Andreeva will join in Punta Arenas in Chile.
The Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) departed from Varna for its third expedition to Antarctica on November 7, 2024, and after nearly two months of sailing, reached Livingston Island on December 28. The new polar season at the St Kliment Ohridski Bulgarian Antarctic Base was officially opened on November 23, 2024.
