site.btaFood Price Index Decreases Slightly during Fourth Week of January

The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria decreased minimally by 0.35% to 2,260 points, compared to 2,268 points in the third week of January, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported.

At the beginning of 2023, the food price index was 2.316 points, and around March 10 it reached its spring peak at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

The price of tomatoes (import) went down by 3.9% to BGN 3.20 per kilogram, cucumbers (import)  - by 1.6% to BGN 3.09 per kilogram. Potatoes went up in price by 2.4% to BGN 1.26 per kilogram.

The price of carrots rose by 7.1% to BGN 1.20 per kilogram, ripe onions (import) - by 2.9% to BGN 1.40 per kilogram. Cabbage increased in price by 14.9% to BGN 1.00 per kilogram, red peppers (import) - by 2.0% to BGN 3.56 per kilogram, salad - by 0.9% to BGN 1.10 per item. Ripe imported garlic became cheaper by 5.2% and was sold at BGN 5.42 per kilogram.

The price of apples (import) remained unchanged at BGN 1.82 per kilogram. Lemons went down in price by 0.5% to 2.08 BGN per kilogram. The price of bananas went dowb  by 1.7% to BGN 2.81 per kilogram, mandarins - by 0.4% to BGN 2.30 per kilogram. Oranges rose in price by 7.2% and were traded at BGN 2.22 per kilogram.

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 0.6% to BGN 11.22/kg. The price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type went down by by 0.6 percent to BGN 16.80 per kilogram.

The price of yogurt (with fat content of 3% and over) went up by 1.7% to BGN 1.20 for 400g. Fresh milk (with fat content of 3%) increased in pric e by 1.8% to BGN 2.30 per litre.

The price of poultry meat decreased by 2.6% to BGN 6.31 per kilogram. Eggs (size M) were sold at BGN 0.37 per piece wholesale, a decrease of 2.6%
The price of rice increased by 3.2% to BGN 3.22 per kilogram. Lentils went up in price by 0.5% and were sold at BGN 4.23 per kilogram, ripe beans - by 1.7% to BGN 4.18 per kilogram.

The price of sugar remained unchanged at BGN 2.25 per kilogram. by 0.6 percent to BGN 16.80 per kilogram. Sunflower oil decreased in price by 1.5% to BGN 2.71 per liter.

Flour (type 500) decreased in price by 3.71% to BGN 1.25/kg. The price of butter from cow's milk went down by 4% to BGN 2.65 for a pack of 125 grammes.
