Innovation Minister and Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre Discuss Cooperation in Microelectronics

Minister of Innovation and Growth Milena Stoycheva and representatives of the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) discussed specific steps for cooperation to promote and support the ecosystem in Bulgaria at a workshop at IMEC's main research centre in Leuven, Belgium, on Thursday, Stoycheva's Ministry reported.

The meeting was attended by IMEC Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy Officer Jo De Boeck, Manager Public Funding and Academic Relations at IMEC Valentina Terzieva and Deputy Innovation Minister Georgi Angelov. The agenda included the establishment of a Microelectronics Competence Centre in Bulgaria.

The Minister said that the microelectronics sector offers high added value and is based directly on research and development. The Ministry of Innovation recognizes it as strategic and of great importance for increasing the Bulgaria's competitiveness. Among the Ministry's priority sectors are information and communication technologies, mechatronics and microelectronics, artificial intelligence, bioeconomy and biotechnology, space technologies, circular economy.

Stoycheva emphasized that Bulgaria is already in the process of being administratively included in the Chips Joint Undertaking, while the Government has designated her Ministry as the single national authority in the field of microelectronics.

Stoycheva was in Brussels, where she participated in the 16th European Space Conference.
