The deposits of non-financial corporations amounted to BGN 43.829 billion (23.4% of GDP) at the end of December 2023, show Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data published on Wednesday. Compared to the same month in 2022, they increased by 9%.

Deposits of households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs) were BGN 79.984 billion (42.8% of GDP) – an increase of 11% compared to the same month of 2022. Deposits of financial corporations decreased by 11.6% annually in December 2023 (12% annual decline in November 2023) and at the end of the month they were BGN 3.726 billion (2% of GDP).

At the end of December 2023, deposits of the non-government sector were BGN 127.539 billion (68.2% of GDP), increasing annually by 9.5%.

Claims on loans to the non-government sector amounted to BGN 89.862 billion (48.1%of GDP) compared to BGN 89.217 billion (47.7% of GDP) at the end of November 2023. They increased annually by 12% in December 2023.

Loans to non-financial corporations increased by 6.9% annually (6.3% annual growth in November 2023) and at the end of the month amounted to BGN 44.004 billion (23.5% of GDP).

Loans to households and NPISHs were BGN 38.396 billion (20.5% of GDP) at the end of December 2023. They increased by 15.9% compared to the same month of 2022. At the end of December 2023 loans for house purchases were BGN 19.901 billion and increased by 20.5% annually.

Consumer loans amounted to BGN 16.833 billion and compared to December 2022 they rose by 12.3%. (11% annual growth in November 2023). On an annual basis other loans (includes loans granted to associations of owners in accordance with the National Programme for Energy Efficiency of Multi-family Residential Buildings) decreased by 1.1% (1.9% annual decline in November 2023) and reached BGN 399.5 million. In December 2023, loans to Sole proprietorships and partnerships without legal status increased annually by 6.8% (2.8% annual growth in November 2023) reaching BGN 453.8 million.

Loans granted to financial corporations amounted to BGN 7.462 billion (4% of GDP). Compared to December 2022, they increased by 25.5%.
