The concessionaire of the international airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa, North Central Bulgaria has presented a BGN 13.3 million investment programme for 2024, Transport and Communications Minister Georgi Gvozdeikov said in a written answer to a question from MP Dimitar Nikolov, as quoted by the lawmaker on Friday.
The concessionaire, Civil Airport Gorna Oryahovitsa 2016 AD, plans to spend the money on four projects: building a perimeter road, building a new air navigation lighting system, purchasing and installing aviation security systems, and extending the runway.
Gorna Oryahovitsa will become the third Bulgarian airport with a 3 km long runway after Sofia and Burgas. "The concessionaire has obviously not given up on its investment intention to extend the runway, which is to be implemented next year," Gvozdeikov said.
A perimeter fence and a video surveillance system are under construction, to be completed by the end of 2023.
