Representatives of the BSP-United Left coalition, including coalition leader Atanas Zafirov and Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) leader Rumen Petkov, met with Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) President Evelina Slavcheva to express support for a higher budget for the Academy, aimed at ensuring fair pay for specialists with higher education and academicians.
The representatives of BSP-United Left emphasized their support for a budget that guarantees better salaries for BAS specialists and the legal requirements for the remuneration of academicians and corresponding members. The Left has always supported the development of science and education, the coalition representatives noted.
The discussion focused on strengthening the connection between BAS, the State, and business, and involving BAS institutes in preparing analyses, forecasts, and opinions for ministries, state agencies, regulators, and local authorities. The participants discussed improving the transfer of scientific results and the implementation of scientific projects and innovations to business and the State.
The discussion also addressed the need to rethink the "money follows the student" model, due to its negative impact on secondary and higher education.
