Wholesale prices of staple foods in Bulgaria remained basically unchanged in the third week of November, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said. The index of wholesale food prices decreased by 0.09% over the reporting week to reach 2.211 points. At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Greenhouse cucumbers increased in price the most during the week, by 18.3% to BGN 2.85 per kilogram. The price of tomatoes went up by 1.2% to BGN 3.40 per kilogram. Potatoes became cheaper by 0.8% to BGN 1.28 per kilogram.

The price of carrots decreased by 2.0% to BGN 0.98 per kilogram. Ripe onions (import) went down in price by 5.1% to BGN 1.29 per kilogram, while cabbage went up by 6.5% to BGN 0.98 per kilogram. The price of red peppers decreased by 2.8% to BGN 2.09 per kilogram. Green peppers were traded at BGN 1.73 per kilogram, a 1.7% decrease. 

Imported apples increased in price by 3.8% to BGN 1.89 per kilogram. Oranges became cheaper by 15.5% to BGN 2.73 per kilogram. Lemons were sold at BGN 2.30 per kilogram. The price of bananas decreased by 1.4% to BGN 2.87 per kilogram. The price of grapes increased by 8.9% to BGN 2.57 per kilogram.

The price of white brined cheese from cow's milk rose by 1.1% to BGN 11.52/kg. Yellow Vitosha kashkaval cheese went up in price by 1.4% to BGN 17.65/kg. Yogurt, with fat content of 3% and over, was selling at BGN 1.23 for 400 g. Fresh milk, with 3% fat content, increased by 2.3% to BGN 2.25/litre.

Poultry meat increased in price by 1.7% to BGN 6.40 per kilogram. Eggs (size M) sold at BGN 0.35 per piece wholesale at the end of the week.

The price of rice increased by 1.0% to BGN 3.18 per kilogram. Lentils were traded at BGN 4.16 per kilogram. Ripe beans went up  by 2.2% to BGN 4.15 per kilogram.
Sugar was traded at BGN 2.38 per kilogram. Sunflower oil depreciated by 3.6% to BGN 2.68/litre. Flour, type 500, went down in price by 1.5% to BGN 1.31/kg. Butter from cow's milk went up by 3.1% to BGN 2.65 for a pack of 125 g.
