In 2022, the largest share of highly-skilled individuals in Bulgaria was reported in the Southwestern Region, which includes the capital, Sofia (46.7%); the lowest share was registered in the Northwestern Region (24.8%). The highly-skilled workers in Bulgaria's North Central Region accounted for 26.1% of all employed people; those in the Northeastern Region were 29.6%; in the Southeastern 25.3%; and in the South Central 24.9%, Eurostat reported on Wednesday.

Across the EU, there were approximately 80 million highly-skilled people employed in 2022, accounting for 44.2% of the total number of people employed aged 25–64.

Highly-skilled workers are essential to modern economies, driving innovation, productivity, and growth. Employed people with high skills are defined as people aged 25–64 who are employed as managers, professionals, technicians, and associate professionals.
